This week I read Pog by Lyn Lee, Pog is a children's picture book. The book is a reversal on the common fear of Monsters for young children. I think this is a great book for young readers, as it is something that the children will be able to enjoy and most even relate to it in some way.

The Golden Day develops a mystery and keeps the reader hanging until the last minute. Although it covers themes such as death, possible murder and missing persons, it does so in a manner that is suitable for young adult readers. This book also has many English references which could be used in a classroom, such as poetry, letter writing and even spelling.

I read Hattie and the Fox to my 'almost' three year old daughter, who squealed with delight when the cow says, "Moo!" This would be a great story for junior primary students as the repetition in the text makes for easy reading and learning new words.
The collage style images in the book could also be a stepping stone to some textural image creations for student's/children's own stories.

This week I have also been reading a children's' novel which is part of the Delta Quest series and it is called the lake of tears. This book follows a group of young friends as they set out to find a number of important gems which were stolen from their country in order to free their land of the rule of an immoral power. Some of big ideas which underpin the narrative include oppression, teamwork, problem solving and friendship. 

Willie the Wimp

This week I have also read Willie the Wimp by Anthony Browne which is a children picture book. The book is about a gorilla which behaves as a human named Willie who is small and really weak. I think this would be a great resource for young children because it ties in with some relevant themes such as bullying, health and physical activity and nutrition.
