Charlie Barley - The Best Bad Boy In Town

Charlie Barley - The Best Bad Boy In Town

Charlie Barley – The Best Bad Boy In Town is a humorous picture book for upper primary school students. This book follows a day in the life of Charlie where his parents take him shopping and if he is good Charlie will get a present he has been searching for. After causing havoc in every shop Charlie creates an accident in the supermarket and then needs to go to the doctors to check the bump on his head.

This text is very fast paced and explored a variety of behaviours that children can showcase when they are taken to shops.  The text is very easy to read and has a very good sequence of scenes and settings that upper primary school students would appreciate. The story line is lively and the characters within the text can easily be related to people in everyday life. The themes within this book could also lead  into discussion about how to act in a shopping centre and follow the rules. I think this is a great text as it is laid back, takes students on a journey of mischief and facing the consequences if they have misbehaved. I believe this book would be very effective in years 5-8.
