Week 4 Workshop

This week, we looked at different text types, and how and why they are used to make the text more appealing for the reader. As a group, we read a short section of the text, Storm-Boy, identifying some of the key features in the language.

As a group, we established that the text was written in 3rd person and was using emotive language. There was a good sense of setting, indication of a strong local knowledge.

We also looked at different texts that had been brought into class. With these we looked at the different types of text, whether they were Information Reports of Procedural Reports, etc.

  1. I really enjoyed working collaboratively to break down the text. It allowed different perspectives to be considered when interpreting the text and gave us all much more information to work with. This is also an activity that could be performed in classes.

  2. I very much enjoyed exploring different texts which exist within everyday life such as newspapers, magazines and recipes. I thought this would work really well in a classroom for students to understand that not all texts follow an exact text type and that most texts that we encounter today are a combination of text types. For example most of the newspaper articles which we looked at were a combination of an information report and exposition. This would then encourage creativity within students writing.
